Bosnia: Moving towards an SDP/SDA alliance?
Overview:
Presidential and parliamentary elections had clear winners and losers. The SDA won the Bosnian seat of the state presidency also outperforming the SzBiH convincingly in the elections for the state parliament. The SDP enjoyed a double success in that its candidate won the Croatian seat of the presidency and the party significantly increased its representation in the state parliament. The SNSD continued its domination of the Republika Srpska. Relations between the SDP and SNSD (the two largest parties in the state parliament) are not good. Early indications suggest that the SDP is therefore looking to form a government with the SDA at both the Federation and State levels although the latter will be more difficult. The SDP would need the support of not just the SDA but a number of smaller parties to achieve this.
