E Europe/FSU: Nominal GDP and GDP per capita


Overview:

Nominal GDP data emphasizes just how large the Russian economy is compared to the other countries in the E Europe/FSU region. With only seven economies measuring over US$100 bn, the region is dominated by a large number of small economies. On the other hand, GDP per capita demonstrates that a few of these economies – notably Slovenia and the Central Eastern European countries – are relatively wealthy. There is a marked difference in GDP per capita between the richest countries in Eastern Europe and the poorer ones in South Eastern Europe. There also continues to be a massive disparity between the levels of GDP per capita in Eastern Europe and the FSU. The poorest countries in Eastern Europe are richer than the average in the FSU with all the poorest economies in the region concentrated there.
