1 Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in February 2008. While many countries have recognised the secession many, including Serbia, have not. Kosovo is not a member of international organisations such as the UN.

2 The name Republic of Macedonia is contested and subject to negotiations broked by the UN. Most international institutions refer instead to a Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
